Les Miserables is the first of a series of classic stories. Each story takes place in the same game universe, which includes all previous stories. The universe becomes deeper and richer with every new release.

The first version is the complete story, from beginning to end

Don't worry, you're not just getting part one. There is no "to be continued" at the end. The first release has the whole of Les Miserables, the 1200 page classic by Victor Hugo, from beginning to end. You get the whole thing. Future releases wil simply add other complete stories. There are no unfinished sequels. Everything is complete.

The next game is likely to be Dante's Inferno, then Journey to the Center of the Earth, then either 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea or Around the World in 80 Days, the The Time Machine. Those are next because I already have the graphics ready and waiting to be plugged in. The next 'big' story I want to do is War and Peace, and I also want the Epic of Gilgamesh and some other stuff. Since I like big stories. Long term I intend to include the complete works of Shakespeare. No, seriously.

Each story is a major event, a substantial work in it own right.  But they also interlock. If you play War and Peace and decide to walk across the Prussian border toward France, you will find yourself in the story of Les Miserables. War and Peace deals with Napoleon's greatest defeat, and Les Miserables gives you the next generation. It all links up.

That is the whole reason for the three design decisions that make this game different from other large games: The huge universe, relatively simple 2D graphics, and the absence of voice over. All of these things let me add content quickly, spending more time on the story and dialog.

Is this realistic? I am only one guy, and this plan involves around fifty stories over the next 20 years.  But think of this game as a theater. Theatrical companies reuse actors and costumes and backgrounds and so wil I. The early games will require a large number of new materials, but as time goes by the universe expands and more and more of it can be reused. My goal is to reuse every scene so often that the entire game universe feels like it's bursting with life and possibilities. Watch this space!
